Track opens outdoor season at 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Brevard College Track team competed in the 49er Classic in Charlotte for their first outdoor meet of the season.

Hassan Kiprono (Iten, Kenya) turned in Brevard's best performance of the meet with a 12th place finish in the Men's 10,000m race. Kiprono ran the nearly six-mile race in 33:48.03.

In the sprints, senior Marlowe Macklin (Brown Summit, N.C.) ran an 11.28 in the Men's 100m race to finish in 45th place out of 95 competitors. Jordan Brown and Jacques Ash came in back-to-back with Brown posting an 11.943 race and Ash an 11.946, 100m time. Jack Dills (Winchester, Ky.) competed in the Men's 200m, posting a 25.17 time for the race.

In the mid-distance race, freshman Michael Anton (Mt. Ulla, N.C.) ran a 2:05.43 in the Men's 800m race. Micah Voelzow competed in the Men's 1500m posting at 4:50.61 time. Voelzow also jumped 1.75m in the Men's high jump unseeded.

Senior Elena Raygoza (Palmdale, Calif.) competed in the women's 3000m steeplechase turning in a 14:03.57 time. Courtney Perkins (Taboro, N.C.) and Kaitlin Chaump represented Brevard in the Women's 1500m. Perkins ran a 5:31.12 race while Chaump followed with a 5:43.85 time. Freshman Ashley Mevoli (St. Petersburg, Fla.) jumped 9.57m in the Women's Triple Jump finals.

Brevard will be back in action next weekend as they compete at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
