Brevard opens spring season at the Camel City Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Brevard College Track and Field team opened up the 2017 season at the Camel City Indoor Invitational. The competition featured schools from both the Division I and II levels from across the Southeast.

Hassan Kiprono (Iten, Kenya) finished 44th in the Men's 3000 meter race with a time of 9:18.81. Freshman Michael Anton (Mt. Ulla, N.C.) turned in a 2:06 time in the Men's 800-meter race, finishing in third place in his heat and 51st overall.

Jack Dills (Winchester, Ky.) represented Brevard in the sprinting events, finishing the 400-meter run with a time of 59:32. Dills also ran the Men's 60-meter race, turning in a time of 7.95. Marlowe Macklin (Brown Summit, N.C.) competed in the 60-meter race finishing in 50th place with a 7:24 time.

For the women, senior Madison Smith (Duvall, Wash.) competed in the 800-meter race, finishing with a 2:57.68 time.

In the women's one-mile, Courtney Perkins (Taboro, N.C.) finished with a 6:10.26. Kaitlin Chaump and Elena Raygoza (Quartz Hill, Calif.) also ran the one-mile finishing with 6:18.24 and 6:37.39 time respectively. Ashley Mevoli (St. Petersburg, Fla.) represented Brevard in the long jump.

Brevard will take some time off to prepare for the outdoor track season. The Tornados will compete in the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C. on March 17-18.
