BREVARD, N.C. -The Brevard College Softball Team (2-17) exploded for 15 hits to score 14 runs against Montreat College on Thursday afternoon. Brevard fell to Montreat 19-14 in seven innings.
Senior Ashleigh Ivey (Concord, N.C.) shined in her last game as a Tornado. Ivey went a perfect 4-4 from the plate and scored four runs. Lauren Parker (Charlotte, N.C.) went 3 for 4 at the leadoff spot while recording three RBI. Rhy Hadden (Sterling, Ill.) capped off her freshman year driving in a run and recording two hits in four at-bats.
Montreat's C. Warner got the win in the circle for the Cavaliers, tossing seven innings allowing 11 runs on 11 hits. Lauren Parker suffered the loss for Brevard.
Montreat got on the board in the top of the first with two runs as M. Meredith singled up the middle to score M. Nocera, who singled up the middle earlier in the inning. P. Rosenbaum singled the next at-bat to bring in C. Townsend.
Brevard answered back in the bottom of the inning, as Parker came around to score on a wild pitch. Ashleigh Ivey reached on an infield single and came around to score.
Montreat added a run in the second and three runs in the third.
Brevard's big inning rally began in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Tornados exploded for ten runs on nine hits. Brevard went through the lineup in the inning. Katlin Burns (Lawndale, N.C.) led things off with a hit by pitch. Parker drove in Burns with a single. Brittan Miller (James Island, S.C.) followed with a single up the middle to score Parker from second. Ivey and Amber Hong (Graniteville, S.C.) switched places on the bases each recording singles and stretched an extra base. Rhy Hadden doubled down the leftfield line.
Burns returned for her second time to the plate in the inning with a single to center field. Erin Barr (Hamptonville, N.C.) recorded her first hit of her career with a double down the right field line to score Burns. Lauren Parker drove in the final two runs of the inning with an infield single to score Chloe Quick (Hartsville, S.C.), who had singled earlier in the inning, and Barr.
The Cavaliers answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Brevard tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth as Ivey led off with a single and scored off a base hit by Hadden.
Montreat took the lead in the top of the seventh, scoring seven runs to win 19-14.
The game marked the final competition for the Tornados this season. After the game, Lauren Parker, Ashleigh Ivey, Katlin Burns, and Erin Barr were honored for all of their hard work and dedication during their time with Brevard College.
