Softball falls to undefeated Mountain Lions

YOUNG HARRIS, GA. - The Brevard College Softball team (1-5) fell to the undefeated Mountain Lions of Young Harris College (14-0) by a score of 13-1 in five innings on Sunday afternoon.

Ricki Kuhn (Newton, N.C.) supplied the lone run for the Tornados with a solo shot over the leftfield fence in the top of the fifth inning. The hit was Brevard's only hit of the night. Kuhn suffered the loss for Brevard on the mound, throwing four innings and striking out one batter.

Young Harris' Nikkie Kovalsky earned the win for the Mountain Lions, tossing three innings and striking out seven batters. Millie Scott came in to toss the final two innings, allowing one run and walking two batters.

Freshman Montana Daniels (Claremont, N.C.) would reach first base on an error by the pitcher in the second inning. Daniels would then earn a stolen base during the next at bat.

The Mountain Lions tacked on five runs in the first inning with four of the runs being unearned. Kelsey Nix would supply a two-out double to right field to drive in two runs. Young Harris did not let up in the second inning, adding five more runs with two outs.

The Tornados held Young Harris in the final two innings allowing two runs to be scored in the bottom of the third and one run in the bottom of the fourth.

After a busy week, Brevard will have a few days off to prepare for a doubleheader on Friday, March 3. The Tornados will host Southern Wesleyan at 4 and 6 p.m.
