Tornados Roll Past William Peace

CARY, N.C. - The Brevard College men's tennis team (3-9, 1-1 USA South) rolled to an 8-1 victory over host William Peace University (3-2, 1-1 USAS) in USA South Conference competition on Saturday at Lions Park in Cary, North Carolina.

The Brevard number one doubles team of sophomores Bryce Bernitt and Noah Lewis made an early statement with an 8-6 victory over WPU's Daniel Hidalgo and Benjamin Fleming.

The all-senior team of JaMarcus Walker and James Srsich won 8-5 in no. 2 doubles.  In number three doubles, the team of freshman Jadon Carnes and sophomore Brian Seon registered a 8-3 win in the pairing's first match together.  The no. 3 doubles match also marked the collegiate tennis debut for Carnes, a dual-sport (basketball) athlete from Concord, North Carolina.

Taking a 3-0 lead into singles play, the Tornados continued their winning ways en route to the decisive team victory.  Bernitt was impressive with a  straight-set 6-2, 6-4 win in number one singles.

BC's other four wins all came in three sets, beginning with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win by Lewis in number two singles to give BC a fifth win and the winning team result.

In number three singles, Srsich outlasted his opponent 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.  Carnes meanwhile in his singles debut, came back to win a marathon tiebreaker 5-7, 6-4, 11-9 over WPU's Ivan Ponce.

Seon also came from behind from down a set to win number six singles by the score of 4-6, 6-0, 10-4.

The Tornados return to action with a conference road match at Pfeiffer on Tuesday, April 4 in Misenheimer, North Carolina.
