USA South Coaches Vote Men’s Tennis Fifth in West Division Preseason Poll

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's tennis team has been selected to finish fifth in the USA South Conference West Division with 18 points in the annual Coaches' Preseason Poll. BC is under the direction of first-year Head Coach Brad Jones and Volunteer Assistant Coach Jimmy Wynn.

Piedmont College (first, 33 points) and LaGrange College (second, 32 points) each received three first-place votes in the tabulation, while Covenant College was selected third in the West Division with a first-place vote and 28 points.

Huntingdon College was picked slightly ahead of the Tornados, as the Hawks earned 19 points for the fourth-place spot. Berea College finished in sixth with nine points, while Maryville College was tabbed seventh with eight points.

On the other side of the conference, defending tournament champion NC Wesleyan College was selected as the East Division favorite with six first-place votes and 36 total votes, while Methodist University received the other first-place vote and finished in second place.

The Tornados enter 2020 with a team full of fresh new faces, as six BC men's tennis student-athletes are freshmen. The group of freshmen - Troy Broska, Brysen Hall, Ethan McGee, Jackson Ray, Miles Schafer, and JaMarcus Walker - are joined by returning sophomore Andrew Ingram. Ray serves as the team captain for the 2020 season.

Broska picked up his first collegiate victory in the Fall portion of the season, winning a three-set match at Pfeiffer on September 29, 2019.

The Tornados men's team will open up their 2020 Spring campaign at the McCoy Tennis Complex on Saturday, February 8 when they host Johnson C. Smith University at 2 p.m.
