Plasa closes out Tornados career with 6-3, 6-2 win

BREVARD, N.C. - Senior Christoph Plasa (Wegberg, Germany) closed out his collegiate tennis career Sunday afternoon with a 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles as the Brevard College Tornados (4-17, 0-11 SAC) dropped their season finale 7-2 to the Newberry College Wolves (16-6, 7-4 SAC).

The Wolves managed to take a 3-0 lead following doubles play as the Tornados No. 1 team of Tom Mittring (Bavaria, Germany) and JR Davis (Hixon, Tenn.) fell 8-2, while Will Christiansen (Crawford, Mass.) and Tim Hengst (Menden, Germany) lost a highly fought 8-5 decision at No. 2. Brevard's final tandem of Plasa and Dan Taylor (Brevard, N.C.) lost by a final of 8-1.

In singles action the Tornados picked up two games at No. 5 and No. 6 singles as Plasa went out in style 6-3, 6-2, while Taylor won 7-5, 11-9 after dropping the opening game 6-3. Newberry picked up the game winning points at No. 2 through No. 4 singles as Davis lost 6-1, 6-2, Hengst lost 6-3, 6-2 and Christiansen fell by the same scores at No. 4. Mittring battled hard at No. 1 singles for the Tornados as the Bavaria, Germany native almost picked up a win, falling 7-6 in game one, loosing 7-4 in the tiebreaker and 7-5 in game two.
