Mittring and Davis win at No. 1 doubles

BREVARD, N.C. - Despite Tom Mittring (Bavaria, Germany) and JR Davis (Hixon, Tenn.) winning 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, the Brevard College Tornados (4-11) were unable to concur the Emmanuel Lions (3-13), falling 8-1 Saturday afternoon in non-conference tennis action.

Following Mittring and Davis's win at No. 1 doubles, both the Tornados No. 2 and No. 3 tandems fell 8-4, giving the Lions and 2-1 lead heading into deciding singles action.

In singles play, sophomore Tim Hengst (Menden, Germany) would fall 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, giving Emmanuel at 3-1 edge, while freshman Will Christiansen (Crawford, Mass.) battled hard at No. 5, falling 6-4 in game one before going down 6-1 in game two. Emmanuel would take the fifth and deciding point at No. 2 singles and Mittring fell 6-3, 6-3. Following the Lions 5-1 edge, the Tornados would put up a run as freshman Cre Still (Hendersonville, N.C.) dropped the opening game 7-5, before evening the match 6-3 in game two. The freshman would drop game three 10-3, while Davis would put up a similar fight at No. 3, loosing 7-6(5) in the opening game tie breaker before winning 6-4 in game two and putting up one of the Tornados best games of the afternoon 11-9 in the tie breaker. Senior Christoph Plasa (Wegberg, Germany) would also finish the afternoon strong as the veteran battled at No. 6 singles, winning the opening game 6-2 before dropping the final two games 6-3 and 10-8.

The Tornados will return back to the courts tomorrow afternoon as they tangle with the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears at 1 p.m.
