Men's Tennis falls to Belmont Abbey

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - On the final day of the Hilton Head Spring Break Tournament, the Brevard College Men's Tennis team (4-10) fell to Belmont Abbey (8-6) by a score of 9-0.

The Tornados came up just short in a few matches. In doubles play, Will Christiansen (Crawford, Miss.) and Tim Hengst (Menden, Germany) battled Grant Goldin and Zachary Blythe to extra games, losing 9-7 at the No. 2 spot. Tom Mittring (Bavaria, Germany) and JR Davis (Hixon, Tenn.) took two games against Juan Baez and James Delaney at the No. 1 spot. The duo lost the match 8-2.

In singles play, senior Christoph Plasa (Wegberg, Germany) took Darian Diaz to three sets. Plasa dominated the first set, securing at 6-2 win. Diaz fought back in the second set winning 6-4 and captured the final set with a 10-6 win. Tom Mittring had a tough loss in set one against Juan Baez at the No. 1 spot. Mittring fell 7-6 in set one and 6-2 in the final set. JR Davis won five games against George Barfoot in set one before falling 7-5 and 6-0 in the last set.

Brevard will have a week of rest before taking on Emmanuel in a nonconference match on Saturday, March 18. The Tornados will take to the courts at 1 p.m.
