Mittring and Davis win close decisions against Lawrence Tech

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Sophomore Tom Mittring (Bavaria, Germany) and freshman JR Davis (Hixon, Tenn.) picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles as the Brevard College Tornados (4-9) dropped their first Hilton Head match of the year, by a final of 7-2 to Lawrence Tech (9-2).

After dropping No. 3 doubles due to forfeit to open the afternoon, the Tornados would battle in an attempt to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles action, as sophomore Tim Hengst (Menden, Germany) and freshman Will Christiansen (Crawford, Mass.) fell 8-4 at No. 2 singles, while Mittring and Davis dropped No. 1 doubles 8-5.

Following a loss at No. 6 and No. 5 singles, Christiansen would put up a tough battle at No. 4 singles after dropping the opening game 6-1, the Crawford, Mass. native would force a tie breaker, before falling 7-6(7-5) in the final game. Hengst would take a 6-1, 6-0 loss at No. 3 singles, opening the door for Davis and Mittring to continue their roll at Hilton head, as the Bavaria, Germany, Mittring battled back after dropping the opening game 6-3, to win 6-2, 10-4 in the second and third frames, while Davis would take the opening game tie breaker 7-6(7-6), loss game two 6-3, before getting back to his winning ways at 10-4 in the final game.

Brevard will look to get back into the win column on Saturday, Mar. 11 as they tangle with Belmont Abbey for the second time this season, loosing 9-0 in the previous meeting back in October.
