Mittring and Davis pick up first doubles win of 2017

BREVARD, N.C. - Sophomore Tom Mittring (Bavaria, Germany) and freshman JR Davis (Hixon, Tenn.) picked up their first doubles win of the year as the Brevard College Tornados (2-7, 0-4 SAC) fell 8-1 to the Tusculum College Pioneers (5-2, 2-0 SAC).

Following sophomore Tim Hengst (Menden, Germany) and senior Christoph Plasa (Wegberg, Germany) falling 8-3 at No. 3 doubles and freshman Cre Still (Hendersonville, N.C.) and Will Christiansen (Crawford, Mass.) dropping No. 2 doubles by a final of 8-2. The Tornados No. 1 tandem of Mittring and Davis knocked off the Pioneers pair of Tomas Kmetko and Toby de Klerk by a final of 8-5.

In singles action, Hengst would fall 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, while Still dropped No. 1 by a final of 6-3, 6-2. Plasa fell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 and Davis dropped No. 3 singles by a final of 6-1, 6-3. In the Tornados final singles matches of the afternoon, Mittring would battle Yago Fernandez 6-3 in the game one, while falling 7-5 in a close game two. While at No. 6 singles Christiansen battled Gabriel Bernardi to a tight 6-4 opening game and a 7-5 game two.

Brevard will look to pick up their first conference win of the season Saturday, Feb. 25 as they travel to Charlotte, N.C. to battle the Queens Royals in South Atlantic Conference play, doubles action is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
