Still and Christiansen pick up win at No. 2 doubles

SALISBURY, N.C. - Freshman Cre Still (Hendersonville, N.C.) and Will Christiansen (Crawford, Mass.) collected their first dual match win Sunday as the Brevard College Men's Tennis team (1-6) dropped an 8-1 decision to the Catawba College Indians (6-3)

Following Catawba picking up an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles to open Sunday's scoring, Brevard's tandem of Still and Christiansen would even the match at 1-1 as the true freshman knocked off the Indians No. 2 doubles team of Ryen Reid and Cason Hiers to pick up their first win of the 2017 season. However, Catawba would take 2-1 lead into singles action as Michael Patch and Luca Picci knocked of the Tornados No. 1 team of Tom Mittring Bavaria, Germany and JR Davis (Hixon, Tenn.) by a close final of 8-5.

In singles action, Catawba would take a 3-1 edge as Lucas Miller defeated Davis 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3 singles, while at No. 1 singles Patch would take a close 7-5 game one decision over Still and the eventual set by a 6-1 final in game two.

Despite Catawba sweeping singles action, the Tornados showed signs of success to come as Mittring battled Picci 7-6 (4), 6-3 at No. 2 singles, while Christiansen almost knocked off Rocko at No. 6 singles, falling 6-4, 7-5.

Brevard will look to pick up their first win of the 2017 portion of their schedule this coming Thursday, Feb. 23 as they host Tusculum for a South Atlantic Conference showdown with doubles action scheduled to get under way 2:30 from the Brevard Tennis Complex.
