BELMONT, N.C. - The Brevard College Men's Tennis battled through extreme temperatures in the 3rd Annual Belmont Abbey Tennis Invitational. The Tornados competed in six matches, taking two of the matches against Belmont Abbey (Black) and Montreat College.

In match one against Belmont Abbey (black), freshman Will Christiansen (Crawford, Miss.), earned his first career college win with a score of 6-4 in the opening frame followed by 6-1 in the final set. The Tornados would go onto win the match 3-2.

The next two matches would not be in the Tornados favor, as they fell to Lenoir Rhyne 5-0 and Belmont Abbey (Red) 3-2. Against the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne, sophomore Tom Mittring (Bavaria, Germany), would put up a good battle, but lost in three sets. In match three, Belmont Abbey (Red) would edge out Brevard 3-2. Freshman, JR Davis would battle for over two hours, earning a set point in the first set. Despite his effort, Davis would fall short of the win.

Match four would prove to be victorious as the Tornados defeated the Eagles of Montreat College 3-2. Freshman, JR Davis (Hixon, Tenn.) would earn his first win of his college career. In the doubles match, Davis and Tim Hengst (Menden, Germany), would battle together to win 8-6.

The final two matches of the invitational would get the best of the Tornados, as they fell in event five to Wingate 5-0 and then to Queens 4-0. In match five, sophomore, Tim Hengst (Menden, Germany), fought for over two hours in a close match. In the final matchup against Queens fatigie began to set in for the Tornados as the teams did not play the final doubles match of the contest. Each member of the team played at least seven matches during the invite, more than any other team competing.

Brevard will return October 8 for their final fall event before the spring season, as they host Newberry, Mars Hill, and Belmont Abbey for a tennis action invitational.
