Tornados kick off 2016-17 season

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Men's Tennis faced off with South Atlantic Conference foe Anderson University this past Saturday in Brevard, N.C. as the Tornados fell by a final of 8-1 in the out of conference fall meeting to kick off the upcoming 2016-17 season.


Anderson would take a commanding 3-0 lead over the Tornados following doubles play as Ignacio Bidegain and Jeffrey Dayton beat Tom Mittring and JR Davis 8-2 at No.1, while Preston Morpath and Nicolas Ascarrunz knocked off Brevard's No. 2 doubles pair of Cre Still and Tim Hengst. The Tornados best doubles match came at No. 3 as Chris Plasa and Will Christiansen fell by a final of 8-5 to Anderson's Hank Sartain and Ramior Urreta.


Brevard would drop the opening two points of singles play as No. 1 Tom Mittring battle a difficult 7-6 (8-6) opening set before dropping the final 6-0 to Bidegain. Davis would fall 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 before the Tornados Cre Still would put the team on the board at No. 3, playing the match of the day as Still battled back and forth with Preston Morpath, Still would drop the opening frame 6-3 before evening the match at 1-1 with a 6-4 win. Morpath and Still would play an incredible third frame as a total of 26 points were scored before Still took down Morpath by a final of 14-12.


The Tornados would drop the final three single matches of the afternoon as Hengst fell 6-2, 6-2 and Christiansen and Plasa both dropped points at the No.5 and No.6 spots, respectively.
Brevard will look to build momentum heading into their spring campaign with weekend trip to Belmont, N.C. September 23-24, before wrapping up fall action with a triple header event against Newberry, Mars Hill and Belmont Abbey on October 8.
