Lacrosse falls 11-7 to Huntingdon

BREVARD, N.C. - Despite a two goal, four assist performance by senior Ryan Taylor (Mill Bay, British Columbia) the Brevard College Tornados (2-8) were unable to over coming a Huntingdon College Hawks (7-6) run, falling 11-7 in non-conference lacrosse action, Saturday evening.

Taylor would lead the way for the blue and white on the evening, while sophomore Kyle Hunziker (Gainesville, Fla.) also finished with two goals. Seniors Mathew Dropuljic (Brampton, Ontario) and Nick Bier (Cumming, Ga.) each added lone goals, while sophomore Jackson McKaig (Gainesville, Fla.) finished with one goal and two assists for the contest.

For the Hawks, both A.J. Harper and Kendrick Ballard finished with two scores apiece, while Caleb Bohrer, Jackson Schrampfer, Austen Saucier and Brandon Scheele all got in on the Hawks scoring action.

Defensively for the Tornados, freshman goalie Chris Stallings (Bel Air, Md.) played well between the pipes as the true freshman, faced a borage of Hawk shot attempts, racking up 15 saves on the evening in just over 53 minutes in net.

Following a Huntingdon goal at the 13:11 mark of the first quarter, the Tornados rolled off four straight scores and looked to be in command of the matchup as McKaig found net for his 18th goal of the year on a Taylor assist, followed by a Hunziker score at 6:47, on Taylor's second helper of the evening. Taylor would get in on the scoring action off a McKaig assist at 4:10 followed by Hunziker's 15th goal of the year with 1:33 remaining in the opening quarter, off another Taylor pass.

The Hawks cut the deficit to two with two seconds remaining in the first as Scheele beat Stallings of a Harper assist.

The second quarter belonged to Huntingdon as the Hawks scored four goals in the quarter to take a 6-4 lead into halftime.

The Hawks added three more unanswered goals in the third quarter and two more early into the fourth quarter to take an 11-4 lead with just over seven minutes of action remaining.

However, the Tornados would not go down without a fight as Bier ended the Tornados scoring drought at the 6:39 mark off a McKaig assist, while Dropuljic added his 19th goal of the year just over two minutes later off Taylor's fourth assist of the game.

Taylor scored Brevard's final goal with 18 seconds remaining, but the damage had already been down, as the Tornados fell 11-7 to future USA South opponent, Huntingdon.

Brevard is set to return to action next Saturday, April 1 as they host the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters, fresh off their upset of nationally ranked Queens, in an April Fools showdown set for 1 p.m.
