Tornados fall 5-3 in fourth quarter heartbreaker to Cobras

BREVARD, N.C. - Despite leading 3-1 at halftime, the Brevard College Tornados Men's Lacrosse team (2-6, 0-3 SAC) were unable to overcome four straight Coker College Cobras (2-3, 1-1 SAC) falling by a final of 5-3 Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action.

Offensively, the Tornados were led by sophomores Kyle Hunziker (Gainesville, Fla.) and Jackson McKaig (Gainesville, Fla.) and senior Mathew Dropuljic (Brampton, Ontario) who each posted goals for Brevard, while McKaig added an assist and a team-high four shot attempts.

Garrett Kilgore and Vinny Magro led the way for Coker as the pair posted two goals apiece, while Denton Wilks tallied the remaining Cobras score.

Freshman Chris Stallings (Bel Air, Md.) would play well in goal for the Tornados as the true freshman posted a game-high 14 saves, while allowing just five goals.

McKaig would open the afternoons scoring with 6:37 remaining in the first quarter, while Coker evened the contest at 1-1 with just under three minutes remaining.

However, a late first quarter score by Hunziker and a second quarter goal by Dropuljic would give Brevard a 3-1 lead heading into halftime.

Despite a third quarter stalemate that gave the Tornados a 3-1 lead heading into the final quarter of play, four straight Cobras goals would prove to be too much for Brevard to overcome as they fell 5-3.

The Tornados will look to pick up their first conference win of the year this coming Wednesday, Mar 15 as they host national powerhouse Queens with action scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m.
