Brevard falls in overtime to Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, TENN. - The Brevard College Men's Lacrosse team (2-4, 0-1 SAC) fell in overtime to Tusculum (4-1, 1-0 SAC) 12-11 in their conference opener on Saturday afternoon.

Brevard finished with 24 shots, as senior Ryan Taylor (Mill Bay, British Columbia) led the way with six goals on nine shot attempts. Senior Mathew Dropuljic (Brampton, Ontario) finished with three goals and two assists.

The Tornados battled back after getting down 5-0 in the first half of play. The Pioneers reached the board first at the 8:05 mark as Nate Wade scored off a pass from Ben Boyd. Tusculum tacked on two more goals in the final minute of the first period to lead 3-0. Andrew Kransberger scored the Pioneer's next two goals.

Mathew Dropuljic put the Tornados on the board with a goal at the 5:24 mark of the second period. Ryan Taylor scored his first of six goals for the day on a man-up situation.

Tusculum went into the half with a 6-3 advantage, but coming out of intermission, the Tornados went on a scoring rage. Taylor would score back-to-back goals followed by a goal from Dropuljic off a pass from Jack Shade (Nacberth, Pa.). Jackson McKaig (Gainesville, Fla.) tied the game at 7-all with 14 seconds remaining in the third period. The Pioneers would score in the final second to regain the lead.

Coming out of the break. Dropuljic would find Taylor to score the team's eighth goal of the day. Brevard took its first lead of the contest at the 12:15 mark, as Dropuljic scored his third goal of the game off a pass from Kyle Hunziker (Gainesville, Fla.).

Taylor's sixth goal of the day, looked to be the game winner, but Liam MacDonald found the net with 14 seconds remaining to send the match into overtime. During the sudden death overtime, Ben Boyd scored the winning goal for the Pioneers to capture the win.

Freshman Chris Stallings (Bel Air, Md.) played all 62:17 minutes in goal for the blue and white, allowing 12 goals and earning nine saves. Raheem Brown (Riverhead, N.Y.) was successful in 8-12 attempts as the faceoff man for Brevard. Austin Sweat (Greenville, S.C.) caused two Tusculum turnovers during the contest.

Brevard will have little rest as the gear up for another conference showdown on Tuesday, March 7, as they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne for a 6 p.m. start time.
