Dropuljic and McKaig power Tornados to 22-13 win over Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. - Senior Mathew Dropuljic (Brampton, Ontario) exploded for a career-high seven goals, as the Brevard College Tornados (2-1) cruised to a 22-13 win over Emmanuel College (0-1) Saturday afternoon in Franklin Springs, Ga.

Dropuljic's seven goals and two assists helped the Tornados power home their second highest point total of the year, behind an opening day 23 goal performance against Shorter. Sophomore Jackson McKaig (Gainesville, Fla.) finished with five goals and one assist, while senior Nick Bier (Cumming, Ga.) added four goals of his own.

Sophomore's Kyle Hunziker (Gainesville, Fla.) and Hewitt Farr (Santa Fe, N.M.) each added a game-high four assists, while defensively; Harrison Roberts (Columbia, S.C.) collected a game-high nine ground balls, while the Tornados forced 25 turnovers, six of which were made by junior Cole Hansen (Coral Springs, Fla.).

Roberts would also finish the afternoon and impressive 23-37 on faceoff attempts, while freshman goalie Chris Stallings (Bel Air, Md.) played well in the crease, recording three saves in 60 minutes of action, while surrendering 13 goals.

Emmanuel would open the game on a 2-0 scoring run in the first three minutes of play as Austin Brundage and Tanner Smith each netted opening quarter goals.

Bier put the Tornados on the board with 7:18 remaning in the open frame on an unassisted scoring attempt.

Brundage would answer for the Lions just under a minute later, but Brevard would rattle off three unanswered goals to close out the quarter, as McKaig, Dropuljic and Bier would put the Tornados up 4-3 at the end of the first.

Coming out of the second half, Dropuljic would find the net twice in the 13th minute to increase the Tornados lead to 6-3 and extend their scoring run to 5-0. Brundage would cut the lead to 6-4 on his third of seven goals on the afternoon at 12:54.

Bier would answer for the Tornados at 11:54 to extend the lead to three again, but Tyler Machado would add a goal at 10:15 to pull back within two of the Tornados at 7-5

Emmanuel would outscore the Tornados 3-2 over the final 10 minutes of second quarter action as Bier and McKaig helped preserve the Tornados 9-8 lead heading into halftime.

Coming out of halftime, Brevard would benefit from a 3-0 run on goals by Farr, freshman Joel Vacchiano (Sebastian, Fla.) and McKaig to help put BC up 12-8.

However, Brundage would add two more goals in the ninth minute to cut the Tornados lead back to two at 12-10.

Brevard would close out the remainder of the third quarter on a 4-0 scoring run, to take a controlling 16-10 advantage into the final quarter of play.

In the fourth, the Tornados added six more goals as senior Ryan Taylor (Mill Bay, British Columbia) got on the board with two late quarter goals to help push the Tornados to 2-1 on the season.

Brevard will return home Feb. 18 as they faceoff with Young Harris, with action slated to get underway at 4 p.m. from the Brevard Soccer Field.
