Tornados Golf Teams Head to Tusculum

BREVARD, N.C. – Both the Brevard College men's and women's golf teams head to Greeneville, Tenn., this weekend to participate in tournaments hosted by Tusculum.

The women's event is a three-day tournament, beginning on Sunday, Sept. 24, on the Links Hill Country Club course. It is a par 72 event that is 5,910 yards.

Meanwhile the men's tournament will take place Sept. 25-26, also at Links Hill Country Club. The men's course is laid out as 6,730 yards and a par 71.

The second tournament for both squads, the Brevard women's team will look to mirror senior Kelsie Rhyne's outing last weekend at the Converse Fall Invite. Rhyne shot a 21 over par and finished tied for 17th, leading the way for the Tornados, posting rounds of 80 and 85.

Taylor Scovel (89-88-177) and Rachel Byrd (119-108-227) placed the second-and third-best scores for the Tornados, respectively, during the tournament.

On the men's side, senior golfer Craig Stephen captured the first tournament title of his collegiate career on Tuesday by firing a 146 (+2) at the Anderson Invitational.

Stephen, who entered the second round in sixth place and three shots off the pace set by day one leader Elias Birkeland (Georgia Southwestern), carded a 70 to win by four strokes.

Joining Stephen among top performers for the Tornados was Calum McAndrew, who finished in a three-way tie for 14th after firing a 156 (+12).
