Evans Scores Career-High 20 as Tornados Complete Season Sweep of Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, Ga. - Junior guard Carson Evans scored a career-high 20 points as the Brevard College men's basketball team (4-6) completed a season sweep over Oglethorpe University (4-6), 75-70, on day one of the Jack Berkshire Classic hosted by Oglethorpe on Thursday afternoon.

Evans, a guard from Charlotte, North Carolina, surged for 20 points on seven made field goals, including a career-high six made 3-pointers. LB Boyette added 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, while reigning USA South Rookie of the Week Jadon Carnes reached double figures with an 11-point performance. Quincy Carter stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals, while Sly White scored six points off the bench.

Oglethorpe was led by Uba Ezigbo who scored 16, while Ryan Jenei (15 points) and Jonathan Awoleye (12 points) also reached double figures.

Brevard shot an efficient 51% from the field and drilled a season-high 13 buckets from long range. Oglethorpe fell despite a 36-26 advantage on the glass and a 40-22 edge on points in the painted area. The Tornados distributed 21 assists in the matchup that was tightly contested with nine ties and five lead changes throughout the bout.

BC's first five buckets of the contest came by way of the 3-point shot, as the Tornados held an early 15-10 edge after a Carnes long-range bucket at the 13:11 mark in the first half. Oglethorpe used a 14-2 scoring run to take a seven-point advantage, 24-17, with 7:31 left in the first stanza. The Stormy Petrels led by as many as nine points before Evans kickstarted a 15-0 scoring run down the stretch of the first half, as the Charlotte native hit four of BC's five 3-pointers to give the Tornados the lead back, 35-32, as both teams regrouped at the halftime intermission.

This scoring run proved pivotal for the Tornados, as Brevard did not fall behind for the remainder of the second half en route to the five-point victory. Oglethorpe tied it up 47-47 at the 13:08 mark, but could not regain the lead from the Tornados. Brevard led by as many as 11 points, 61-50, with 7:58 left to play.

BC wraps up play at the Jack Berkshire Classic on Friday at 2 p.m. when the Tornados have yet another rematch, this time against The University of the South in neutral-site action.
