Brevard Drops Non-Conference Road Tilt to Montreat

MONTREAT, N.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (0-3) dropped a non-conference tilt to Montreat College (3-3) 90-82 on Saturday afternoon at McAlister Gymnasium in nearby Montreat, North Carolina.

Senior guard Quincy Carter led Brevard with a career-high 21 points on an efficient 8-of-10 shooting.  Carter was a perfect 6-for-6 in two-point attempts while going 2-of-4 from beyond the arc en route to the career-best output.

Also scoring in double-figures were LB Boyette with 17 points and Chancey Watson with 13 points.  Guard Charles Reed led the Tornados on the glass with a career-high nine rebounds.

A three-pointer by sophomore Ryan Smith in the early minutes of the contest gave BC a 5-3 advantage for its only lead of the game despite a narrow differential throughout.

Brevard tied the game at 26-26, however, the Cavaliers responded with a 12-2 run to open up a 10-point advantage. BC would shave a few points off before intermission with Montreat taking a 46-39 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Carter hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 58-55 with just under 15 minutes remaining in regulation. Montreat would answer with an 8-0 run and later stretch its lead into double digits. BC battled back to within five points aided by later 3-pointers by Watson and Boyette, however, the home team made free throws late to hold on for the win.

Brevard shot 47.6 from the field on 30 made field goals, while draining nine 3-pointers. BC also shot well from the line, going 13-of-16 (81.3%) from the charity stripe.  Montreat benefited from 12 made 3-pointers and a strong day on the boards with a 44-33 rebound advantage.

The Tornados return to action with a non-conference game vs. Sewanee on Tuesday at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
