Nado Newcomer Spotlight: Men’s Basketball Welcomes 17 to 2020-21 Squad

BREVARD, N.C. – Throughout the Fall of 2020, the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be highlighting the new faces in the BC Tornado family, welcoming the freshman and newcomer student-athletes who will be joining Tornado teams during the 2020-21 athletic seasons.

Next up in this series is the BC Men's Basketball, under the direction of Head Coach Lee Burgess and Assistant Coach Miles Leathers. The Tornados will welcome a total of seventeen student-athletes to its team this upcoming season.

"We have been very pleased with our group of newcomers so far," said Burgess, Brevard College Head Men's Basketball Coach. "As a group, they have shown up hungry and willing to do the things we have asked them to do. The freshmen are learning the rigors and physicality of play at this level, but all in all we are looking forward to continuing their progression and finding out which guys we can count on."

 

LB Boyette- Freshman- Guard- Charlotte, N.C.- Queens Grant High School

The Charlotte, North Carolina native earned All-State honors at Queens Grant High School. Academically, Boyette made the A/B Honor Roll each year. He will be a Physics major with a Mathematics minor at Brevard College.

Quincy Carter-Sophomore- Guard- Decatur, Ga.- Collins Hill High School (Young Harris College)

The Decatur, Georgia native earned All-Conference honorable mention his senior season at Collins Hill High School. Carter will be a Business and Organizational Leadership at Brevard College. He attended Young Harris College for two years prior to beginning his time at Brevard College.

Carson Evans- Freshman- Guard- Charlotte, N.C.- Butler High School

The Charlotte, North Carolina native was involved with the Black Student Union at Butler High School. Evans will be an Exercise Science major at Brevard College.

Jamal Frink- Freshman- Guard- Fayetteville, N.C.- Gray's Creek High School

The Fayetteville, North Carolina native earned Most Improved Player honors in both 2018-19 and 2019-20. Academically, Frink was a member of the National Honors Society and carried a 3.9 GPA. He was involved with the Photography Club. Frink will be an Exercise Science major at Brevard College.

Jaylin Hall- Sophomore- Guard- Dacula, Ga.- Dacula High School (Southern Wesleyan University)

The Dacula, Georgia native with be an Art major at Brevard College. Previously, he attended Southern Wesleyan University.

Benjamin Jeffcoat- Sophomore- Guard- Columbia, S.C.- Gray Collegiate Academy (Francis Marion University)

The Columbia, South Carolina native won a 2A State Championship at Gray Collegiate Academy. He graduate with honors and will be a Business and Organizational Leadership major at Brevard College. Jeffcoat attended Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina his freshman season in 2019-20.

Tyrese Jefferies- Freshman- Guard- Mount Holly, N.C.- Stuart W. Cramer High School

The Mount Holly, North Carolina native earned a Big South 3A Conference Player of the Week honor, the Leadership Award, and was selected to the People's Bank Holiday Clash All-Tournament team. Jefferies will be a Business and Organizational Leadership major at Brevard College.

Qua Johnson- Freshman- Guard- LaGrange, Ga.- Troup County High School

The LaGrange, Georgia native is a graduate of Troop High School.

Eli Kessinger- Junior- Guard- Sumter, S.C.- Thomas Sumter Academy (Pfeiffer University)

The Sumter, South Carolina native earned All-Region honors at Thomas Sumter Academy. He previously attended Westminister College (2018-19) and Pfeiffer University (2019-20).

Quenten Maddox- Freshman- Guard- Charlotte, N.C.- Bandys High School

The Charlotte, North Carolina native earned Catawba Valley Athletic Conference All- Conference honors alongside selections onto All-County and all-Tournament teams. Academically, Maddox made the A/B Honor Roll at Bandys High School. He will be a Business and Organizational Leadership major at Brevard College.

John Martin- Freshman- Forward- Gastonia, N.C.- Forestview High School

The Gastonia, North Carolina native made the A/B Honor Roll throughout his academic career at Forestview High School.

Michael Peters- Freshman- Forward- Belmont, N.C.- Gaston Christian School

The Belmont, North Carolina native was awarded All-State First Team and MAC All-Conference honors. He will be a Business and Organizational Leadership major at Brevard College.

Charles Reed- Freshman- Guard- Concord, N.C.- Jay M. Robinson High School

The Concord, North Carolina native will be a Business and Organizational Leadership major at Brevard College.

Cody Reep- Freshman- Guard/Forward- Rutherfordton, N.C.- Rutherford Early College

The Rutherfordton, North Carolina native was named a Salient Scholar and graduate Summa Cum Laude from Rutherford Early College. He will be an Exercise Science major with a Health Science minor at Brevard College.

Ladji Samoura- Junior- Guard- Fayetteville, N.C.- Fuquay-Varina High School (University of Northwestern Ohio)

The Fayetteville, North Carolina native earned numerous high school honors including WHAC All-Conference First Team, Most Improved Player, and two-time Most Valuable Player selections. Samoura attended NAIA's University of Northwestern Ohio. He played in 51 games and scored 156 points for the Racers. Samoura will be a Business and Organizational Leadership major at Brevard College.

Alex Wesig- Junior- Guard/Forward- Lawrenceville, Ga.- Mountain View High School (Catawba College)

The Lawrenceville, Georgia naïve was a four-year varsity letter winner at Mountain View High School. He competed for the Catawba College's reserve team for the past two season. Wesig will be an Exercise Science major at Brevard College.

Sly White- Freshman- Guard- Raleigh, N.C.- Trinity Academy of Raleigh

The Raleigh, North Carolina native earned All-Conference honors his sophomore and senior season at Trinity Academy of Raleigh. White will be an Exercise Science major at Brevard College.
