Woods Secures Special Teams Player of the Week after Blocked Punt TD vs. Averett

BREVARD, N.C. – Sophomore defensive back James Woods earned USA South Special Teams Player of the Week honors after his blocked punt touchdown against Averett University on Saturday.

Woods, a sophomore from Lincolnton, North Carolina, and transfer from Louisburg College, blocked a punt attempt midway through the fourth quarter and returned it for a touchdown to pull Brevard within 10 points, 16-6, in its 23-6 defeat at Averett. Woods also added a career-high five tackles and ½ tackle-for-loss with a pass breakup.

The block was the second of Woods' young Tornado career, as the sophomore also blocked a field goal in BC's 27-7 defeat at The Apprentice School. Woods has totaled nine tackles, ½ TFL, two pass breakups, and two blocks in three games this year.

The Tornados enjoy a bye week before kicking off USA South Conference action on Saturday, October 1 at home vs. Greensboro College at 2 p.m.
