Staff Highlight Series: Director of High School Relations/Outside Linebackers Coach/Defensive Quality Control Coach Josh Romero

BREVARD, N.C. - Throughout the Fall, the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be highlighting its staff members in a tri-weekly Staff Highlight Series, giving members of the Athletic Administration and Coaching Staff the opportunity to introduce themselves to the BC community through a series of questions and biographical elements.

Next up in BC's Staff Highlight Series is Brevard College Football Director of High School Relations/Outside Linebackers Coach/Defensive Quality Control Coach Josh Romero, a former football student-athlete at Brevard College.

bctornados.com: What has been your favorite professional memory?

Coach Romero: The recruiting process so far has been my favorite. I had six student-athletes commit over the summer. It feels great helping out these kids to further their education and help give them the opportunity to play at the next level.

bctornados.com: What makes Brevard College a special place?

Coach Romero: The community and its positive people, the mountains, and the waterfalls!

bctornados.com: Who has been the biggest influence in your professional career?

Coach Romero: Coach Khayat. He gave me the chance to do an internship with football in my last semester of college and he hired me to be a part of the staff. Coach Khayat has always been a positive person and lets you know how things are. Those are the type of people that I like to surround myself with.

bctornados.com: What is some advice you would give to young people looking to get into the profession?

Coach Romero: Get involved early and meet a lot of different people. Networking is huge and will benefit everyone.

Josh Romero enters his first season on staff with the Tornados Football program, serving as the Director of High School Relations, the Outside Linebackers Coach, and a Defensive Quality Control Coach.

Romero, a 2020 graduate from BC with a Bachelor's degree in Business and Organizational Leadership and a minor in Coaching, is originally from Frostproof, Florida. He was a Defensive Lineman for the Tornados Football team for three years and was the Vice President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Brevard College.

As a member of the Tornados, he was the first student-athlete anointed to the team's "Champions Club" back-to-back years,  which requires perfect attendance in all team-related activities, a superior GPA, and voted upon by coaching staff and athletic trainers. A member of the Honor Roll, Romero also served as a Peer Mentor assisting underclassmen on campus as well as his role as a Resident Advisor.

Active in the community, Romero has volunteered at Pisgah Paws, a local non-profit shelter for cats in distress.  As a team member at BC, he participated in local clean-up efforts around the town of Brevard, North Carolina.

Romero was awarded the opportunity to participate in the NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program in Anaheim, California where only 40 student-athletes across the country got selected. He networks with industry professionals and learns what it takes to succeed in the coaching profession.
