FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Following a complete-game shutout that eliminated first-round host Methodist University in the opening round of the 2023 USA South Conference Baseball Tournament, sophomore right-handed pitcher Jacob Thompson was selected to the USA South All-Tournament Team. 

Thompson, a second-year Tornado from Gray, Georgia, becomes the first BC baseball student-athlete to earn All-Tournament honors from the USA South. 

In the second game of BC's four-game tournament run, Thompson led the Tornados with a career-best outing in which he hurled nine shutout innings, allowing just four hits and three walks with five strikeouts as Brevard eliminated Methodist with a 4-0 victory. 

Thompson broke out in his sophomore campaign, going 5-2 in nine starts and 11 total appearances, maintaining a 3.71 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 63 innings pitched. Thompson ended the season tied for the team lead in wins and second in innings pitched and ERA.

The victory over Methodist would prove to be the final of BC's season, as the Tornados finished the 2023 campaign with 22 overall wins - one of the most successful seasons in the program's 15-year NCAA history. The Tornados finish with 20-plus wins for the second-consecutive season and earned the first two playoff wins in program NCAA-era history.
