Scudder impresses in Tornados midweek loss to Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA.- Senior Teke Scudder (Cornell, Ill.) turned in an outstanding performance on the mound for the Brevard College Tornados (8-20, 2-7 SAC) as they fell to the Emmanuel College Lions (10-16-1) in a midweek matchup 3-2. Brevard entered the contest with a three game winning streak with the Lions.

Scudder pitched a season-high seven innings while allowing just one run and striking out out Emmanuel batter. With the start, Scudder improved his strikeout total to 25 and made his eighth start of the season.

After falling behind in the second inning following a home run from Brandon Hill, the Tornados wasted no time answering the call in the top half of the third.

Freshman Donny Carsillo (Waxhaw, N.C.) collected his 13th RBI of the season when he drove home freshman Joe Nelms (Malabar, Fla.) on an RBI groundout. This knotted the game at one and paved the way for Scudder to dominate on the mound.

Three innings later, Schuyler Martire (Pine Brush, N.Y.) brought across the final run of the game for Brevard when he singled to score Josh Hall (Asheville, N.C.) and give the Tornados the 2-1 lead.

Emmanuel would surge in front for good in the eighth inning, as a home run from Eric Pape and an error by the Tornados put them ahead 3-2 heading into the top of the ninth.

The Tornados offense tallied four hits on the afternoon as Joe Nelms continued his hot streak at the the plate with a single in the contest. Nelms is currently hitting .304 and has hit safely in eight of the last nine games for the Tornados.

Seniors Tyler Konzen (Orlando, Fla.) and Schuyler Martire both added in hits of their own for the Tornados as Josh Hall finished off the hitting with one hit on the afternoon.

Drake Black recorded the loss on the mound for the Tornados as he threw one inning of relief while allowing two runs, one of which was earned.

For Emmanuel, starter Dalton Kuhn would go the distance as he threw a complete game while striking out 10 and giving up two runs.

Brevard will return to action on Friday, March 24 as they travel to the Volunteer State to take on the Carson-Newman Eagles in a South Atlantic Conference matchup with first pitch scheduled for 3:00pm.
