Tornados fall to Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, TENN. - The Brevard College Baseball team (8-18, 2-6 SAC) fell in both games of Saturday's conference doubleheader to the hot hitting Pioneers of Tusculum College (15-8, 8-3 SAC).

The Tornados combined for 21 hits for the day with Josh Hall (Asheville, N.C.) having a pair of hits in both games, and senior catcher Brayden Morris (Pulaski, Va.) busting out four hits in game two, going a perfect 4-4.

The Pioneers scored 33 runs on the day, having 19 hits in game one and 14 hits in game two, to pick up their eighth conference win of the season.

Game 1: Tusculum 16 - Brevard 3

The Pioneers got things started in the first inning, posting three runs as E. Cabrera led things off with a single up the middle. Colby Skeen would hit a sacrifice fly to score Cabrera for the game's first run. Nick Lacina hit a two-run homerun over the leftfield fence to give the Pioneers the early lead.

Brevard would reach the board in the fifth inning as Josh Hall led off with a single. Brian Kahn and Parker Hubbard hit back-to-back singles to advance Hall to third. Schuyler Martire (Pine Bush, N.Y.) delivered the RBI to score Hall from third on the next at-bat. The Tornados tacked on another run in the sixth as Hall delivered an RBI double down the right field line to score Kyle Morrison (Greensboro, N.C.) who singled to lead off the inning. Brevard's final run came in the ninth as Alex DuBreuil (Brevard, N.C.) doubled to center field to score Brandon Loran (Kissimmee, Fla.).

Teke Scudder (Cornell, Ill.) was charged with loss, as the senior threw 1.2 innings allowing six runs on seven hits. Freshman Kross Robinson (Morganton, N.C.) and Kristofer Yarbrough (Monroe, N.C.) each threw a scoreless inning. Yarbrough surrendered one lone hit in the eighth.

Game 2: Tusculum 17 - Brevard 4

Tusculum's offense did not stop in game two as the Pioneers posted 17 runs on 14 hits. Brevard's bats heated up as the Tornados blasted 13 hits.

Senior Brayden Morris went a perfect 4-4 from the plate with one RBI. Josh Hall kept his bat going 2-4 and driving in one run. Freshman shortstop, Brian Kahn (Durham, N.C.) finished 2-3 from the plate.

Tyler Konzen (Orlando, Fla.) was the losing pitcher, throwing six innings, allowing nine runs on seven hits while striking out three. Konzen kept the Pioneers scoreless in the first and third innings. Pioneers' pitcher Tim Hardy was credited with the win, tossing six innings. Hardy allowed one run on nine hits and struck out four.

Brevard scored three runs in the final inning of the game. Kahn and Joseph Nelms (Malabar, Fla.) led the inning off with back-to-back singles. With bases loaded Martire singled to score Kahn. Blaine Durham hit a sacrifice for Brevard's third run of the day. Brayden Morris's fourth hit of the day would score the Tornados final run, as with single up the middle scored Hall.

Tusculum blasted 12 runs in the seventh inning to run away with the victory and seal the series win.
