Salem Sweeps Brevard in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team (4-21, 2-14 USA South) fell in straight sets, 3-0, to Salem College (19-8, 11-5 USAS) on Thursday evening in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. 

The Spirits took the first set, 25-18, before narrowly taking a 25-23 win in the second set. The hosts closed things out with a 25-19 win in set number three to sweep the match. 

Blair Nance and Makenna Parkins each led the Tornado attack with eight kills apiece, while Ashley Hoxit added seven kills and 11 digs. Kaitlyn Pressley totaled six kills, 17 assists, and seven digs. 

The Spirits were led by Aspen Bradley's 15-kill effort, while Ashlyn Wood (24 assists) and Ashlee Peek (15 assists) facilitated the Salem offense throughout the contest, assisting on 39 total points. 

The hosts were able to control much of the first set en route to their 25-18 win, but the Tornados battled back in the second set, holding a late lead in the frame. Salem battled back, however, surging past Brevard to take the second set, 25-23. The Spirits closed out the conference victory with a 25-19 set three win, concluding the three-set sweep of Brevard. 

The Tornados will conclude their 2022 season with two matches on the road on Saturday in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, facing NC Wesleyan University at 10 a.m. before taking on Methodist University at 2 p.m.
