Tornados Drop Pair in Home USA South Quad-Match

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team (2-10, 0-3 USA South) hosted a USA South Conference quad-match on Saturday at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  The Tornados played two matches, falling to William Peace (13-3, 3-0 USAS) 3-0 in the first contact of the day before dropping a 3-0 result to Meredith (9-5, 2-1 USAS) to cap off the afternoon.

Match One - William Peace 3, Brevard 0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-9)

Junior Makenna Parkins led the BC attack with 12 kills.  Junior Kaitlyn Pressley registered 13 assists, 13 digs, and five kills.  Setter Logan Priddy also dished out 13 assists, while libero Bailey Lance led BC with 15 digs. 

Sophomore Kendall Rockstad served two aces with Lance adding a service ace as well.  Fellow sophomore Ashley Hoxit added six kills and six digs.

WPU was led by setter Mackenzie Russell with 31 assists and 19 digs.  Three different Pacers recorded nine kills apiece.

In the opening match of the day with a mid-morning start, the visiting Pacers began play with a 25-18 first-set victory.

Down 1-0, the Tornados put together their best stanza of the match in set number two. Trailing 21-16, Brevard reeled off four straight points. After a service error by the Pacers, Rockstad delivered a service ace to cut the deficit to 21-18. Another point win on a Rockstad serve was then followed by a kill by Pressley on an assist from Rockstad.

WPU however would go on to win the set's final four points to take a 2-0 advantage.  The Pacers then never trailed in set number three en route to the straight-set win.

Match Two - Meredith 3, Brevard 0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-20)

Hoxit and Parkins led the Brevard attack with each player recording eight kills.  Pressley led BC with 13 assists, while Priddy added seven.  Lance (8 digs), Hoxit (7 digs), and Pressley (6 digs, 1 block) led the Tornados defensively.

For the second straight match, BC served three aces with service aces coming from Lance, Priddy, and Hoxit.

Meredith was led by setter Lillie Davis with 31 assists, while hitters Hailey Long and Martin-Maine Wrangell each delivered 11 kills.

Meredith won the first set, then cruised to a 2-0 lead with a 25-12 victory in set two.

Brevard fought valiantly in the third set, tying the stanza up 17-17 on a kill by Pressley off a Bailey assist.  BC tied the set again at 18-18 with a Hoxit kill off a Pressley assist.

Meredith would win seven of the final nine points however to take the third set and the match victory.

Brevard returns to action with a conference road match at Greensboro College on Wednesday, September 28 at 6 p.m. in Greensboro, North Carolina. BC's next home match is scheduled for Tuesday, October 4 vs. Salem College at the Boshamer Gymnasium with first serve at 6 p.m.
