Tornados Conclude Season in First Round of USA South Tournament

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Brevard College volleyball team closed out its 2021 season on Tuesday evening in the first round of the USA South Conference Volleyball Tournament, falling by a final of 3-0 to Huntingdon College in Maryville, Tennessee. 

The defeat concluded a remarkable season for the Tornados, who finished with a .500 record in conference play (8-8) and appeared in the program's first postseason since 2015. 

Ashley Hoxit led the Tornado attack with 12 kills, while Kaitlyn Pressley added nine and Makenna Parkins totaled eight. Pressley turned in a versatile performance with 15 assists and six digs. Bailey Lance led the defense with 23 digs, while Logan Priddy had a team-high 20 assists. 

Huntingdon's Ashlen Janowski had a game-high 13 kills to lead the way for the Hawk offense, while Jessi Hilyer distributed 19 assists. 

Brevard and Huntingdon battled through a back-and-forth first set before the Hawks pulled away with a narrow 26-24 set victory. The fourth-seeded Hawks would claim sets two and three, 25-19, to claim the straight-set match victory. 

Maryville, the host of the first round and quarterfinal matches, defeated Huntingdon 3-0 following the conclusion of the first round match. 

Hoxit finished the season with 270 kills, while Pressley totaled 247 kills, 288 assists, and 187 digs in an all-around season for the sophomore from Brevard. Priddy dished out 429 assists in her first season at BC, while Lance led the defense with 447 digs.
