BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College volleyball team (4-13, 3-3 USAS) picked up a USA South Conference victory on Wednesday evening, sweeping Agnes Scott College (1-14, 1-5 USAS), 3-0, at the Boshamer Gymnasium. The Tornados took the first set, 25-21, before dominating set number two 25-14. BC closed out the match with a 25-16 set three victory, completing the sweep over the Scotties.

Freshman Ashley Hoxit led all players with a game-high 10 kills in the victory. Kaitlyn Pressley added seven kills to the Tornado offense to go along with a game-high 14 assists. Logan Priddy dished out 12 assists and added seven digs on the defensive end, while Bailey Lance totaled a team-best 11 digs. Freshman middle blocker Melanie Hoyle drove home six kills while adding a pair of blocks.

Brevard never trailed in the match, as the Tornados took a 2-0 lead in the first set and never looked back. Agnes Scott was able to keep things within striking distance in the first set, tying the score a total of five times, but Brevard used a 6-1 scoring run to take a 21-16 lead late. The Scotties railed off five-of-six points to cut the Tornado lead to one point, 22-21, but a pair of Agnes Scott errors followed by a Hoxit kill closed the set in favor of Brevard, 25-21.

The Tornados scored the first eight points of the second set, using a pair of Lance service aces and two Pressley kills to take the 8-0 advantage. The Scotties were able to cut the deficit to a 16-11 margin before two kills and a service ace helped the Tornados extend their lead, 21-11. Senior defensive specialist Morgan Graham logged a service ace to give Brevard the 2-0 match lead with a 25-14 set two win.

Brevard controlled the third set, as Agnes Scott hung around through the first 20-plus points of the stanza. With BC holding a narrow 12-11 set lead, the Tornados used a 10-3 scoring run to push their lead to a 22-14 margin. Hoxit and Hoyle drove home kills before freshman Ali Simon hit the match-clinching kill that gave the Tornados the match sweep, 3-0.

The Tornados will now turn their attention to a USA South tri-match in Lookout Mountain, Georgia this Saturday, as BC will take on host Covenant College at 1 p.m. before a 3 p.m. match against Wesleyan College in neutral-site action.
