GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team (3-13) fell in straight sets to host Bob Jones University in a non-conference match up on Tuesday night in Greenville, South Carolina. The Tornados fell is set one 25-23, before dropping set two 25-15 to fall behind 2-0. The Bruins won the match with a 25-17 victory in set number three.
Sophomore Makenna Parkins led the Tornados' attack with ten kills to go along with a block on the defensive end. Freshman Ashley Hoxit delivered six kills to add to the BC attack, while also adding a block.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Pressley led Brevard with seven assists to go along with four kills. Sophomore Bailey Lance and senior Morgan Graham anchored the BC defensive back line with 18 and 12 digs respectively. Freshman Logan Priddy added eight digs and four assists.
The Tornados tallied six services aces across the three sets, led by three service winners by Lance. Junior Grace Pukas, Priddy and Pressley each registered an ace as well.
Brevard made its strongest statement in the first set. Trailing 21-18, the Tornados went on a 5-0 run with Lance serving to take a 23-21 lead. The Bruins responded with a 4-0 run to win the first set 25-23.
Bob Jones continued its momentum into the second set with a 9-0 start. BC cut the deficit to six points at 19-13 on a Pukas ace before Bob Jones scored six of the set's final eight points to take the 2-0 lead.
Set number three saw BJU's highest attack percentage (.171) en route to the 25-17 set win to take the match.
The Tornados return to action with a return to USA South Conference play on Wednesday night with a home match vs. Agnes Scott at 7 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymansium.
