BC Hosts Conference Tri-Match, Drops Pair of Matches
BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team (2-11, 1-2 USAS) dropped a pair of USA South Conference matches on Saturday as host of a league tri-match held at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
 
Brevard took visiting Huntingdon (3-9, 1-1 USAS) to a fifth set, before the Hawks prevailed 25-22, 26-24, 22-25, 21-25, 15-13.  In the second match of the day for the Tornados, BC fell in straight sets to Berea (6-7, 2-0 USAS) 25-22, 25-17, 25-23.
 
In the match not involving the Tornados at the tri-match, Berea defeated Huntingdon in five sets.
 
Huntingdon 3, Brevard 2 (25-22, 26-24, 22-25, 21-25, 15-13)
 
The visiting Huntingdon Hawks won the first two sets to take an early lead in the match forcing must-win scenarios for Brevard in each of the remaining sets.  BC rose to the occasion with wins in sets number three and four.  
 
Forcing a decisive fifth set, BC trailed 8-2 early in the stanza before a 6-0 run tied the game 8-8. Following tied scores at 9-9 and 11-11, Huntingdon won four of the final six points to take the match in five sets.
 
Sophomore Kaitlyn Pressley recorded the second triple-double of her collegiate career with a 15-kill, 22-assist, 15-dig performance to lead the Tornados. It marked the fourth match this season with double-digit kills for the Brevard, North Carolina native who had previously notched a triple-double in a win over Piedmont last Spring.
 
Freshman Ashley Hoxit registered a double-double of 16 kills and 15 digs, while sophomore Makenna Parkins added 13 kills.  Sophomore Bailey Lance recorded a team-high 32 digs, while freshman Logan Priddy facilitated the BC offense with 19 assists.
 
Berea 3, Brevard 0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-23)
 
Visiting Berea won its second match of the tri-match with a straight-set win over the Tornados.
 
Trailing 2-0 in sets, the Tornados kept matters close in set number three before Berea took the victory with a 25-23 set win.
 
Parkins led Brevard on the attack with nine kills along with freshman Melanie Hoyle who registered eight kills. Pressley continued her versatile play with a seven-kill, 10-assists, 8-dig output.  Lance led the team defensively with 14 digs.
 
BC was effective with the service, recording seven aces over the three sets.  Hoxit and Lance each served three aces, while junior Grace Pukas added a service ace.
 
Brevard returns to conference action with a USA South tri-match vs. Maryville and host LaGrange on Saturday, October 2 in LaGrange, Georgia.
