Wasps Sweep Tornados in Emory on Monday

EMORY, Va. - The Brevard College volleyball team (1-9) dropped a non-conference match to Emory & Henry (4-5), 3-0, on Monday evening in Emory, Virginia. 

Ashley Hoxit, a freshman from Balsam Grove, North Carolina, totaled six kills to lead Tornado attackers. Makenna Parkins and Kaitlyn Pressley added five kills each, while Brook Groves and Melanie Hoyle totaled four kills. 

Logan Priddy dished seven assist out, while Pressley added six dimes in addition to Grace Pukas, who totaled five. On the defensive end, Bailey Lance racked up seven digs, while Hoyle registered three total blocks. 

The Wasps were led offensively by Camden Jones' nine kills, while Abbie Dillon and Abbie Hutzler drove home eight kills each. 

BC battled back from an early deficit in the first set, cutting EHC's lead to just two points late, but the Wasps pulled away for a 25-22 set win. The hosts came out strong in the second set for a 25-15 victory before closing out the match in the third set, 25-18 for the straight-set victory. 

The Tornados open USA South Conference play on Wednesday, taking on Piedmont University in Demorest, Georgia at 6 p.m.
