Tornados Conclude USA South Crossover Tournament

BREVARD, N.C. - Day two of the USA South Conference Crossover Volleyball Tournament concluded Saturday with host Brevard (1-8) dropping its two matches vs. visiting Pfeiffer and William Peace.  In total Brevard College hosted ten matches over the two days pitting conference members from the East and West Divisions of the USA South.

Pfeiffer 3, Brevard 1 (25-19, 17-25, 21-25, 25-27)

Brevard won the opening set of the match, before dropping three consecutive sets to the visiting Falcons to fall in the first of two matches for the tournament hosts on Saturday.

Offensively, freshman Ashley Hoxit led the Tornados with 12 kills to go along with a career-best five service aces.  Sophomore Makenna Parkins and freshman Melanie Hoyle each added nine kills.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Pressley registered another versatile performance with six kills, 13 assists, and six digs.

As a team, the Tornados registered a season-high 12 service aces.  In addition to Hoxit, Pressley and Morgan Graham each recorded two aces, to go along with service winners by Bailey Lance and Logan Priddy.

BC won the first set 25-19 to take an early 1-0 lead, however, Pfeiffer responded with a 25-17 win in set two followed by a 25-21 victory in set three to move into the driver's seat for set number four.  In the back-and-forth definitive fourth set, Brevard earned set point at 25-24.  However, the Falcons scored three consecutive points to finish off the set 27-25 and win the match 3-1. 

William Peace 3, Brevard 0 (15-25, 25-27, 12-25)

William Peace won set number one 25-15, before the Tornados and Pacers dueled in a tight second set.  After Brevard opened up its largest lead of the match 21-13, WPU came back with an 8-0 scoring to tie the second set 21-21.  William Peace then found itself in four set-point opportunities before finishing off the set 27-25 to take a 2-0 set lead into set number three.

The Pacers then pulled away with a 25-12 victory in the third set to take the match win.

The Tornados were led on the attack by Hoxit with nine kills.  Pressley registered eight kills to go along with seven assists and four digs.  Priddy logged 13 assists, while Lance recorded 10 digs.  Sophomore Abbey Duncan led the way in the service department with three service aces.

The Brevard volleyball team returns to action on Monday with a road trip to Emory, Virginia to take on non-conference foe Emory & Henry.  USA South Conference play then begins on Wednesday evening at Piedmont in Demorest, Georgia.
