Brevard Battles in Four-Set Defeat to Bob Jones

BREVARD, N.C - The Brevard College volleyball team (1-5) battled in a four-set defeat to visiting Bob Jones University (5-0) on Wednesday evening inside the Boshamer Gymnasium. 

Freshman outside hitter Ashley Hoxit racked up a career-high 17 kills while also logging seven digs defensively. Sophomore Kaitlyn Pressley also totaled double-digit kills, tallying a double-double of 11 kills and 10 digs. 

Logan Priddy distributed 35 assists to facilitate the Tornado offense, while defensive specialist Bailey Lance added a team-high 11 digs. Makenna Parkins was active at the net for the Tornados with a pair of solo blocks and four assisted blocks, as Brevard totaled nine team blocks.

BJU's Victoria Glaze registered a game-high 19 kills, while Hannah Prince dished out 31 assists and Katelyn Landkrohn logged 17 digs for the Bruin defense. 

Bob Jones started the first set on a 10-0 scoring run and didn't look back, as BC wasn't able to cut to within single digits before the Bruins' 25-11 set-one victory.

The second set proved much more competitive, with five ties and three lead changes. Trailing 6-4, Brevard went on a 6-1 scoring run capped off by a Hoxit kill. With the score 12-10, Brevard went on to outscore the Bruins 13-6 down the stretch, as a Hoxit kill gave Brevard the set win, 25-16. 

Set number three featured seven ties and three lead changes, as both teams battled back and forth throughout the stanza. BC equalized the score at 12-12 and then again at 17-17 before regaining the lead, 19-17 after kills from Pressley and Emma Wester. BJU used an 8-3 scoring run in the last moments of the third set gave the Bruins a pivotal set victory, 25-22.

Despite falling down by an 8-2 margin early, Brevard continued to battle the Bruins, keeping things tight throughout the deciding set. The Tornados were able to cut the Bob Jones advantage to a one-point, 20-19 margin after another Hoxit kill, however, the Bruins outscored the Tornados 5-2 down the stretch for the 25-21 set victory and 3-1 match win. 

BC Volleyball will now prepare to host its USA South Crossover Tournament at the Boshamer Gymnasium on Friday and Saturday, September 17-18. The non-conference tournament will feature a grand total of 10 matches overall, with BC competing in three of them.
