Four-Consecutive Singles Wins Push Brevard Past Pfeiffer, 5-2; Tornados Advance to Semifinals of USA South Tournament

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's tennis team (14-5) advanced to the semifinals of the 2023 USA South Conference Tournament after a 5-2 First Round win over Pfeiffer University (14-6) on Tuesday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.

The victory marks the second-consecutive season that the Tornados have earned a home playoff victory, as Brevard now turns its attention to a Thursday matchup in Rocky Mount, North Carolina against to-seeded NC Wesleyan University, with first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.

BC's postseason triumph required the Tornados to come from behind, as Brevard fell behind 2-1 after doubles play but rallied, claiming four-straight singles matches to pull away with the 5-2 win in the first-to-five match.

Number-three doubles duo of Hamrick Perry and Savannah Anderson claimed an 8-4 victory with little resistance to get BC a pivotal doubles point. The Falcons earned wins in number one-and-two doubles action to take the 2-1 match lead as the contest shifted to singles play.

BC picked up two key singles matches at the numbers five and six positions, as Perry (no. 5) and Anderson (no. 6) each won their singles contests with an identical 6-1, 6-2 score.

Sophomore Hannah Hersh, a native of Estero, Florida, defeated Pfeiffer's Megan Rekieta in dominant 6-2, 6-2 fashion in the top-flight singles matchup to put Brevard one more point away from clinching the team victory and booking their ticket to the Semifinals. Fellow sophomore Sophie Trantham wrapped the match up for the Tornados, defeating opponent Alison Sloop, 6-3, 6-3 in number-four singles action as BC clinched the team victory.
