Women’s Tennis Sweeps Salem on the Road; Clinches Home Postseason Match

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (12-4, 5-2 USA South) took down Salem College (3-11, 1-6 USAS) in 9-0 fashion to sweep a USA South Conference matchup in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. 

BC moves into a tie for third place in the USA South standings and officially clinched a home playoff match for a second-consecutive season in the first round of the USA South Women's Tennis Tournament beginning next week at the McCoy Tennis Complex. The Tornados will match up with Southern Virginia University this Saturday at 11 a.m. to compete for the third-seed in the tournament.

Brevard comfortably swept doubles play before going 6-0 in singles action to take the 9-0 victory. 

BC's number-one doubles duo of senior Alli Kogoy and Hannah Hersh earned a dominant 8-1 victory to kick action off, as the number two duo of senior Brooke Garland and sophomore Sophie Trantham and number-three pairing of senior Hamrick Perry and Savannah Anderson claimed 8-4 victories in their respective matches as the Tornados took a 3-0 match lead. 

Hersh, Kogoy, Garland, Trantham, and Perry all cruised to straight-set victories in number one-through-five singles play, while Anderson won a thriller in number-six singles play vs. Salem's Ashley Linden. Anderson fell 3-6 in set number one before rallying in the second set, 6-3. Anderson proceeded to take a 10-6 win in the tie breaking third set to wrap up the 9-0 win for the Tornados. 

Brevard heads to Buena Vista, Virginia on Saturday for its regular-season finale.
