BC Women’s Tennis Placed Fifth in Conference Preseason Poll

BREVARD, N.C. – Fresh off the program's first postseason appearance and victory since 2011-12, the Brevard College women's tennis team was selected to finish fifth in the USA South Conference preseason coaches poll.

N.C. Wesleyan was placed atop the rankings thanks to receiving 79 total points and eight of the possible ten first-place votes. The Battling Bishops will look to capture their third regular season and tournament titles in the past four seasons. Methodist grabbed 73 total points and the remaining two first-place votes to place second in this season's preseason coaches poll while Southern Virginia rounded out the top three with 66 points.

Since the first Conference women's tennis preseason poll in 2003, the N.C. Wesleyan program has been picked to capture the title three times, succeeding two of those times. The team picked first (at least divisionally) in the history of the preseason poll has played for the Conference tournament championship all 19 times, winning the League title on 14 occasions. Conversely, the team picked second in the preseason poll has won the Conference championship four times. N.C. Wesleyan, in 2015, is the only team to be picked lower than second (they were selected third) in the preseason poll to win a tournament championship.

Pfeiffer finished just ahead of Brevard with 55 points in the poll, while Meredith (sixth, 40 points), Salem (seventh, 31 points), William Peace (eighth, 26 points), Mary Baldwin (ninth, 23 points) and Greensboro (10th, nine points) rounded out the poll.
