Brevard Handles Maryville to Advance to Quarterfinals of USA South Tournament

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (11-11) claimed a 5-0 postseason victory over Maryville College (4-10) to advance to the quarterfinals of the USA South Women's Tennis Tournament. 

Host Brevard earned the first-round win at the McCoy Tennis Complex, as the no. 4 Tornados now advance to the quarterfinals in Rome, Georgia.  

Brevard earned a pair of default wins, while number one and two double alongside number-five singles all earned wins in the first-to-five format. 

Number-one doubles duo Hamrick Perry and Sophie Trantham won 8-6, while Brooke Garland and Hannah Hersh cruised to an 8-2 win. 

Maryville was forced to forfeit number-three doubles and number-six singles, while Trantham earned a straight-set victory, 6-0, 6-0, to clinch the match for the Tornados. 

Brevard will face Averett University on Thursday in Rome, Georgia for the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.
