BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (10-11, 4-3 USAS) swept USA South Conference foe Maryville (4-9, 3-4 USAS) in the teams' regular-season finale on Tuesday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex. With the win, Brevard secures its spot in the upcoming USA South Conference Tournament along with a winning record in regular-season league play. With the victory, BC women's tennis clinches its first postseason berth since earning a spot in the 2011-12 South Atlantic Conference Tournament.

Brevard opened play with a decisive number one doubles win by Brooke Garland and Sophie Trantham by the score of 8-2.  With a default win already in the books, the no. 2 team of Hannah Hersh and Alli Kogoy won a hard-fought match 8-6 to secure BC a 3-0 lead following doubles play.

Kogoy, a junior from Canton, Georgia, promptly took care of business in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the number two spot.  Trantham, a freshman from Matthews, North Carolina, also won in straight sets blanking her number four singles opponent in the second set en route to a 6-4, 6-0 triumph.  Harsh followed with a straight-set 6-3, 6-3 victory in the number one slot.

With the team victory already in hand, the remaining two matches proved to be thrillers.

Garland and her opponent Abby Diggs split the first two sets before the Canton, North Carolina native finished the deal with a 10-5 tiebreaker. Sophomore Melody Ferguson and Maryville's Abby Smither battled as well until an eventual 11-9 tiebreaker win to secure the 9-0 sweep for the win.

Brevard will now turn its attention to the 2021 USA South Conference Tournament, where the Tornados will host a first-round matchup against the Scots, with match date and time to-be-determined.
