Scots Top Tornados in USA South Opener at Lookout Mountain

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (6-9, 0-1 USAS) fell 7-2 to Covenant (5-6, 1-0 USAS) in the USA South Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at the Covenant Tennis Complex in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.

The Tornados earned two singles wins in the defeat as junior Alli Kogoy and freshman Sophie Trantham were each victorious.

Kogoy defeated Lauren Carr in number three singles by the score of 6-4, 6-1.  Trantham, in her first career singles match in USA South Conference play, took care of Alexis Baker 6-3, 6-4 in no. 5 singles.

The Scots took a 3-0 lead into singles competition after sweeping doubles play to start the match.  The closest doubles match proved to be on the no. 2 line as BC's Hannah Hersh and Brooke Garland battled Carr and Nicole Restrogo of Covenant. The Scots ultimately won the competitive match 8-4 to take a 3-0 advantage into singles.

In addition to Kogoy and Trantham, BC's singles players included Hersh (no. 1 singles), Hamrick Perry (no. 2), Garland (no. 4) and Melody Ferguson (no. 6).

It marked the fourth all-time matchup between the Tornados and Scots with the series now tied 2-2 after Covenant's win on Saturday.  The defeat also snapped a four-match winning streak that Brevard was riding dating back to road trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

BC will return to action on Saturday, March 26 at 12 p.m. vs. conference foe LaGrange at the McCoy Tennis Complex on the Brevard College campus.  The match will be part of the Tennis Across America Day celebration.
