Tornados Win Spring Home Opener, Take Fourth-Consecutive Match

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (6-8) posted its fourth-consecutive team win on Monday afternoon, as the Tornados hosted their first home match of the Spring. BC defeated Meredith College (2-4) by a final score of 6-3 at the McCoy Tennis Complex. 

Brevard took a 2-1 lead following doubles play before taking four-of-six singles matches for the 6-3 team win. 

BC edged Meredith in two hard-fought doubles matches in the no. 1 and 2 positions. Junior Hamrick Perry and freshman Sophie Trantham teamed up for an 8-7 win in number one doubles action, taking the tiebreaker 8-6 for the top-flight victory. Brevard's number-two duo of Brooke Garland and Hannah Hersh also took an 8-7 decision with a 9-7 tie breaking win. 

Brevard then moved on to singles play, winning singles matches 2-5 to clinch the team win. Garland, Alli Kogoy, Perry, and Trantham all won singles matches to help earn the 6-3 team win for the Tornados. 

BC will open USA South Conference play alongside the men's team on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Lookout Mountain, Georgia against Covenant College at 2 p.m.
