BC Women’s Tennis Narrowly Drops Fall Opener 
BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team opened its 2021-22 campaign and its Fall schedule with a 5-4 defeat to Johnson University (Tenn.) on Saturday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
 
After a default loss in number three doubles, Brevard took one win into singles play as the duo of Brooke Garland and Hamrick Perry defeated dominated with an 8-1 victory in number two doubles.
 
Alli Kogoy and Hannah Hersh combined for their debut as BC's number one doubles tandem, yet fell 8-4 in their match.
 
With a 1-2 deficit in the team competition, BC captured three singles wins. Freshman Sophie Trantham made her collegiate debut with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory in number five singles. Hersh, also in her college debut, then won 6-2, 6-2 in number four singles. 
 
Junior Brooke Garland provided an exciting match throughout a three-setter in number three singles. After dropping set one 7-5, she responded with a 6-1, 6-2 performance in sets two and three to take the victory as the Tornados came just short in the team defeat. 
 
BC returns to action on Friday, September 10 at Randolph in Lynchburg, Virginia with match time set for 4 p.m. ET.
