BC Draws with Greensboro in Home Conference Opener

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (6-3-2, 0-1-2 USAS) played visiting Greensboro College (3-5-2, 1-0-1 USAS) to a 1-1 draw in its USA South Conference home opener on Tuesday night at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Trailing 1-0, senior Alyssa Hetherington scored her second goal of the season finishing off a loose ball in the penalty box to give BC the equalizer in the 47th minute.  It marked the eighth goal and 25th point in Hetherington's career, who is a native of Marietta, Georgia.

Freshman Mackenzie Lozano played all 90 minutes in goal for Brevard, registering four saves and producing a clean sheet in the second half.

Offensively, BC produced some quality chances throughout the match with defender Emma White blasting three shots on goal to go along with two shots on goal by freshman midfielder Kiara Porcelli

Forward Abby Mayer also added two shots in addition to the score by Hetherington and a shot by Taylor Richardson.

Greensboro's goal came in the 42nd minute after both teams remained scoreless for most of the first half.

BC battled back with a spark after halftime and the resulting pressure culminated with the Hetherington equalizer.  However, neither team was to find a second goal as the final 43 minutes went without a score.

Greensboro outshot BC 13-9 in the contest.  Seven of BC's nine shots were on goal, while just five of the Pride's shots were on target.

Brevard returns to action with the Homecoming women's soccer game vs. conference foe Southern Virginia on Friday night at 8 p.m. under the lights at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
