Brevard Nets Six Goals in Shutout of Allen; Mayer Notches Second Hat Trick of Week

BREVARD, N.C. - Junior forward Abby Mayer collected her second hat trick of the week, while the Brevard College women's soccer team (3-1) exploded for six goals rn route to a 6-0 shutout victory over Allen University (0-4) on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field. 

Mayer, a native of Roxboro, North Carolina, scored three times and added an assist to bring her weekly total to six goals and two assists. 

Grace Black added two goals, while Jessica Tenjhay scored her second career goal and added an assist. Graduate transfer Khadijah Shakirof totaled the first two assists of her Tornado career, while Hailey Brien, Maddy Edwards, Alyssa Hetherington, and Mikayla Zvekan all logged assists. 

Nicole Arroyo (2-0) got the win in goal, earning her second shutout of the season for Brevard. 

The Tornados dominated the contest from the onset, holding a 15-6 shot advantage and controlling possession. 

Black put in BC's first goal of the contest after Arroyo played a big ball over the top that found Mayer. The forward then dribbled through the defense and put in a ball to Black, who touched it over the line for a 1-0 lead six minutes in. 

The Tornados doubled its lead in the 12th minute when Mayer put in her first goal of the afternoon, as Hetherington played a ball on the right side toward Zvekan, who then crossed it to Mayer for the goal. 

Brevard was held in check for 40 minutes, but added a goal in the 56th minute when Shakirof played a through ball to Tenjhay, who ripped a shot into the back of the next. 

Under 30 seconds later, Brevard put in its fourth goal as Tenjhay and Edwards built up an attack that ended with Mayer's second goal of the contest, giving the Tornados a 4-0 lead. 

Mayer completed her hat trick in the 63rd minute on a Shakirof assist to extend its advantage to a 5-0 margin, before Black scored her second goal to put the match away 6-0 in favor of the hosts. 

BC is scheduled to return to play on Monday at  7 p.m. in Greenville, South Carolina to face Bob Jones University.
