Women’s Soccer Selected Tied-for-Fifth in USA South Preseason Poll

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College women's soccer program has been voted tied for fifth in the USA South Conference preseason coaches poll.

Methodist was placed atop the rankings thanks to receiving 78 total points and six of the possible ten first-place votes. The Monarchs finished last season with a perfect 9-0 regular season Conference record and claimed the East Division Championship but fell in the semifinals of the USA South Tournament. Southern Virginia, which was second in the poll, grabbed 76 total points and the remaining four first-place votes. Mary Baldwin rounded out the top three with 58 points.

Finishing just ahead of the Tornados was Greensboro College with 51 points, while Brevard and Meredith tied for fifth place with 43 points each.

NC Wesleyan University (7th place, 39 points), Pfeiffer University (8th, 25 points), Salem College (9th, 19 points), and William Peace University (10th, 18 points) rounded out the preseason tabulation.

The 2022 USA South Women's Soccer Tournament will once again be conducted exclusively on campus sites. The top-eight seeded teams will advance to the tournament which will begin with first round action on Tuesday, November 1. The semifinals will take place Thursday, November 3 with the finals occurring on Saturday, November 5. The higher-seeded team in each contest will host.

The Tornados, under the direction of seventh-year Head Coach Juan Mascaro Sr. and his brand new staff of Associate Head Coach Juan Mascaro Jr. and Volunteer Assistant Coaches Sallie Riggan and Rebeccah Rojas, are seeking their third-consecutive postseason berth after making the USA South Conference postseason in the Spring 2021 and Fall 2021 seasons.

BC's 2022 season kicks off with an exhibition on the road on Saturday, August 27 vs. Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina at 5 p.m. ahead of the team's regular-season opener on Thursday, September 1 at Ives-Lemel Family Field at 6 p.m. vs. Guilford College.
