    Brevard College placed 154 student-athletes on the USA South Academic All-Conference Team for the 2022-23 academic year.
  • BC Women’s Soccer Announces 2023 Schedule

    The Brevard College women’s soccer program announced its schedule for the 2023 season of competition. The slate for the Tornados features 18 total regular season contests including eight home games and nine matchups within USA South Conference play. “We are very excited for our upcoming 2023 schedule,” said Head Coach Juan Mascaro. “The first stretch of the season is against very solid competition and will prepare us for conference play. We look forward to competing for a conference championship this coming season with a strong group of returners and an exciting incoming class. There is a lot of anticipation around our program heading into the Fall and we can’t wait to get started.”
  • Tornados Celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day

    The Brevard College Department of Athletics proudly celebrates this year’s National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD).  The Tornados will host a celebration at the next home athletics event – the Women’s Basketball game vs. N.C. Wesleyan on Friday, February 3 with tipoff set for 6 p.m. ET at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
  • Program-Record Six Tornados Named to Women’s Soccer Academic All-District Team

    A program-record six Brevard College women’ soccer student-athletes have been named 2022 Academic All-District performers, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA). Brevard College’s Channing Barker, Grace Black, Maddy Edwards, Alyssa Hetherington, Abbie Worsencroft and Autumn Wright were all named to the Academic All-District team for the Fall 2022 season. All six Tornados now advance to the ballot for the 2022 CSC Academic All-America team.
  • Tornados Conclude Season with Dramatic PK Shootout at USA South Conference Tournament

    The seventh-seeded Brevard College women's soccer team (10-5-5) was eliminated 4-3 in a penalty kick shootout after a 0-0 draw to two-seed Southern Virginia University (10-6-2) in the First Round of the USA South Conference Tournament on Tuesday in Buena Vista, Virginia.  The penalty-kick shootout came after 110 minutes of scoreless soccer with 90 minutes of regulation followed by two 10-minute overtime periods. The host Southern Virginia made all four of its penalty-kick attempts to take the victory. BC’s graduate students Emma White and Khadijah Shakirof along with junior Grace Black each made penalty kicks in the shootout for the Tornados.
  • Nicole Arroyo Selected as USA South Rookie of the Week

    Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Arroyo was named USA South Conference Rookie of the Week following her sixth shutout performance of the season in a 2-0 victory for the Tornados at Pfeiffer last Tuesday.  The Yulee, Florida freshman goalkeeper recorded a shutout in the only contest she appeared in last week, a 2-0 victory over Pfeiffer. Arroyo stopped all three shots faced in the victory.
  • POSTSEASON PREVIEW - Tornados Hit the Road as Seven-Seed, Match Up with Southern Virginia

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (10-5-4) competes in its fourth postseason in the last five seasons as the Tornados, who garnered the seven-seed in the 2022 USA South Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament, head to Buena Vista, Virginia to take on two-seed Southern Virginia University (10-6-1) on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in a first-round matchup.  The winner of Tuesday’s contest will take on the victor in the 3-6 matchup between No. 3 Mary Baldwin and No. 6 NC Wesleyan. 
  • Women’s Soccer Ends Regular Season with 2-1 Victory on Senior Day

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (10-5-4, 3-3-3 USA South) took down William Peace University (11-5, 5-4 USAS) 2-1 on Saturday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field. The win marked the 10th victory for the Tornados, who clinched the seven-seed in the 2022 USA South Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament. Brevard will travel to Buena Vista, Virginia to take on Southern Virginia University on Tuesday, November 1.
  • Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Pfeiffer for 2-0 Conference Win

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (9-5-4, 2-3-3 USA South) shut out Pfeiffer University (2-11-1, 1-7-0 USAS), 2-0, on Tuesday afternoon in Misenheimer, North Carolina.  Junior forward Grace Black scored BC’s second goal of the day in the second half while assisting on its first goal to lead the Tornado offense. Senior midfielder Jessica Tenjhay scored her second goal of the season in the 15th minute off Black’s assist, while graduate defender Khadijah Shakirof assisted on Black’s goal in the 70th minute of action. 
  • Tornados Drop Conference Tilt in Virginia

    The Brevard College women's soccer team (8-6-4, 1-4-3 USA South) fell 1-0 to host Mary Baldwin (12-5-1, 6-2-0 USAS) in a USA South Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in Staunton, Virginia.
  • Brevard Picks Up First Conference Win of 2022

    Junior forward Grace Black scored a goal in the 18th minute, as the Brevard College women’s soccer team (8-4-4, 1-2-3 USA South) earned its first conference win of the season, shutting out Salem College (5-8-1, 1-4-1 USAS) 1-0 on Wednesday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field. 
  • Monarchs Score Late to Defeat Tornados

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (7-4-4, 0-2-3 USA South) fell 2-0 to USA South Conference leader Methodist (10-2-1, 6-0-0 USAS) on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  Freshman goalkeeper Mackenzie Lozano, a freshman from St. Petersburg, Florida, was spectacular on several plays en route to a career-high 10 saves. 
  • White’s Free Kick Goal Holds as Tornados Shut Out Owls

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (7-3-4) needed just one goal - a long-range free kick by graduate defender Emma White - to secure victory as BC shut out Mississippi University for Women (5-5-1), 1-0 on Thursday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  The win snaps a four-match streak of draws for BC and extends its unbeaten result streak to six matches which surpasses the program’s record in the NCAA era.
  • Tornados Score Two in Second Half to Earn 2-2 Draw in Charlotte

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (6-3-4) used two second-half goals to earn a 2-2 draw on the road against Johnson & Wales NC (2-8-2) on Tuesday evening in Charlotte, North Carolina. The result marked the fourth-consecutive draw for BC women’s soccer after the come-from-behind decision in the non-conference affair.
  • BC Women’s Soccer Draws 1-1 vs. Southern Virginia on Friday Night

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (6-3-3, 0-1-3 USA South) drew in its third-consecutive conference contest, as the Tornados tied with Southern Virginia University (5-5-1, 1-1-1 USAS) 1-1 after 90 minutes on Friday night at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  Mikayla Zvekan scored a breakaway goal to tie the contest late in the first half on Kiara Porcelli’s assist on a long through ball, equalizing the contest just before the halftime intermission. The score would remain level at 1-1 following a scoreless 45 minutes in the second half. 
  • BC Draws with Greensboro in Home Conference Opener

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (6-3-2, 0-1-2 USAS) played visiting Greensboro College (3-5-2, 1-0-1 USAS) to a 1-1 draw in its USA South Conference home opener on Tuesday night at Ives-Lemel Family Field. Trailing 1-0, senior Alyssa Hetherington scored her second goal of the season finishing off a loose ball in the penalty box to give BC the equalizer in the 47th minute.  It marked the eighth goal and 25th point in Hetherington's career, who is a native of Marietta, Georgia.
  • Tornados and Avenging Angels Play to Scoreless Draw in Raleigh

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (6-3-1, 0-1-1 USA South) drew 0-0 at Meredith College (1-4-1, 0-1-1 USAS) on Thursday afternoon in Raleigh, North Carolina. Brevard led the contest in overall shot attempts 13-to-9 over Meredith and freshman goalkeeper Nicole Arroyo (2-2-1) stopped four shot attempts in the 90-minute shutout performance. Abby Mayer led all Tornados with four shots – including two on-goal – while Maddy Edwards and Mikayla Zvekan each took two shot attempts for Brevard. Grace Black, Chantel Carmenzind, Alyssa Hetherington, Khadijah Shakirof, and Emma White all registered shots in the match.
  • Lozano and Porcelli Collect Weekly Honors from USA South

    Brevard College women's soccer collected two more weekly conference honors this week, as freshman goalkeeper Mackenzie Lozano earned USA South Conference Defender of the Week while freshman midfielder Kiara Porcelli was awarded Rookie of the Week by the USA South.
  • Mayer Matches School Hat Trick Record as Brevard Dominates Berea, 8-0

    Junior forward Abby Mayer logged her third hat trick of the season to match the NCAA-era single-season and career records, as the Brevard College women’s soccer team (6-3) used an eight-goal outburst to defeat Berea College (1-8-1) on Tuesday afternoon in Berea, Kentucky. Mayer, a junior from Roxboro, North Carolina, scored three goals to bring her season total to 10. The first-year Tornado has now scored three goals in three separate contests, matching the program NCAA-era single-season and career record for hat tricks, tying Ashley Hughes ‘19 who logged three hat tricks in her senior season. Mayer surpassed Bailey Varley’s two career hat trick mark.
  • Tornados Drop Conference Opener on Road

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (5-3-0, 0-1-0 USA South) fell 3-1 to host N.C. Wesleyan (4-5-0, 1-0-0 USAS) in the USA South Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The defeat was just the second in the last seven matches for the Tornados who reeled off a four-game win streak from September 3-15 during the non-conference portion of the season. Graduate defender Emma White scored the lone goal for Brevard with a finish with just five seconds remaining in regulation.  After a foul by the Battling Bishops as time ticked down, White lined up for a free kick from 30 yards out and promptly curled a beautifully placed shot over the goalkeeper’s head. It marked the career-high fourth goal of the season for White who has now scored in two consecutive games and in three of the last four matches.
  • Brevard Routs Toccoa Falls; Mascaro Picks Up 50th Victory as Women’s Soccer Head Coach

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (5-2) got back in the win column with a dominant 7-0 shutout victory over the Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles on Wednesday evening in Toccoa, Georgia.
  • Mayer Collects USA South Player of the Week Honor
    September 15, 2022
    Following a history-making week, junior forward Abby Mayer was selected as the USA South Conference Player of the Week. Mayer, a native of Roxboro, North Carolina, became just the third Tornado to record a hat trick when she scored three times and added an assist in a 4-0 victory over Warren Wilson College on Tuesday, September 6. She then became the first Tornado ever to log consecutive hat tricks in the same week as Mayer again scored three goals with an assist in a 6-0 win over Allen University on Saturday, September 10.
  • Brevard Wins Fourth-Straight with 2-0 Victory vs. Carlow

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (4-1) won its fourth-consecutive game and notched its fourth-straight shutout, using a pair of goals to take a 2-0 win over Carlow University (1-1) on Thursday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field. Over the course of its undefeated streak, Brevard has outscored its opponents 14-0. BC’s defense has not allowed a goal in 374:23 of game time. Graduate defender Emma White scored a goal from over 35 yards out on a free kick while also notching an assist for three points in the match. Abby Mayer, the reigning USA South Conference Player of the Week, scored her seventh goal in her last three matches on a double assist from White and Mikayla Zvekan. Mayer pushed the attack all night with nine shot attempts and six on-goal, while Taylor Richardson added five shots and two on-goal.

    Junior forward Abby Mayer collected her second hat trick of the week, while the Brevard College women’s soccer team (3-1) exploded for six goals rn route to a 6-0 shutout victory over Allen University (0-4) on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.  Mayer, a native of Roxboro, North Carolina, scored three times and added an assist to bring her weekly total to six goals and two assists. 
  • Mayer’s Hat Trick Propels Tornados to 4-0 Triumph over Owls

    Junior forward Abby Mayer earned the first hat trick of her career as the Brevard College women’s soccer team (2-1) surged past Warren Wilson College (0-2-1) on a rainy Tuesday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field. Mayer, a native of Roxboro, North Carolina who transferred to BC from North Greenville University, totaled the first three goals of her Tornado career while also adding an assist for seven total points. Mayer’s hat trick marks the fifth in program history for Brevard College women’s soccer, as the junior joins alumni Ashley Hughes and Bailey Varley as the only Tornados to record three goals in a single game.
  • Tornados Earn First Win of 2022 in West Virginia

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (1-1) defeated host Bluefield College (1-1) on Saturday afternoon at the East River Soccer Complex in Bluefield, West Virginia. The win marked the first victory for the Tornados in this young 2022 season.
  • Guilford Takes 5-0 Victory over Brevard in Season Opener

    The Brevard College women’s soccer team (0-1) fell in its first contest of the 2022 season to Guilford College (1-0), 5-0, on Thursday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field. The Quakers used a four-goal surge in the second half to claim the shutout victory over the Tornados.
  • Women’s Soccer Selected Tied-for-Fifth in USA South Preseason Poll
    August 24, 2022
    The Brevard College women's soccer program has been voted tied for fifth in the USA South Conference preseason coaches poll. Methodist was placed atop the rankings thanks to receiving 78 total points and six of the possible ten first-place votes. The Monarchs finished last season with a perfect 9-0 regular season Conference record and claimed the East Division Championship but fell in the semifinals of the USA South Tournament. Southern Virginia, which was second in the poll, grabbed 76 total points and the remaining four first-place votes. Mary Baldwin rounded out the top three with 58 points.
  • Mascaro adds Sallie Riggan to Women’s Soccer Coaching Staff

    Brevard College women’s soccer alumna Sallie Riggan ’21 has been added to the BC women’s soccer coaching staff as Volunteer Assistant Coach, announced Head Coach Juan Mascaro. “We are thrilled to welcome Sallie back to Brevard in this new role,” commented Coach Mascaro. “She was a leader for us on the field during her playing career, and will be a valuable asset to the program as a coach mentoring our team.”
