BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (9-7-3) hosted the first round of the 2021 USA South Conference Women's Soccer Tournament, falling by a final of 1-0 to visiting Huntingdon College (9-8-1) on Tuesday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field. 

Graduate goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas made seven saves in the final game of her Tornado career, while Olivia Grisewood, Taylor Richardson, and Justine St. Louis each took three shots apiece. 

Brevard and Huntingdon were evenly matched throughout the contest, as BC took 12 shots to HC's 11. Brevard made seven saves while Huntingdon stopped six shots, and the Tornados won two corner kicks to Huntingdon's one. 

The Tornados and Hawks played to a scoreless draw through the first half, with Brevard taking five shots to Huntingdon's four. Autumn Wright, a sophomore defender from Elliot City, Maryland, fired a pair of shots off to lead BC. 

BC and Huntingdon played to a back-and-forth scoreless draw until the 77th minute when Madison Tryon put in a quality cross that was finished by Ashlyn Purvis, giving the Hawks the 1-0 edge with 13 minutes left to play. 

Grisewood, Richardson, and St. Louis all took attempts at goal within the final 13 minutes of play, but the Tornados were unable to find the back of the net as Huntingdon advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament with the 1-0 victory. 

The defeat concludes an impressive 2021 season for the Tornados, where Brevard earned the four seed in the West Division of the USA South and qualified for postseason play for the third time in four seasons.
