Tornados Take 1-0 Win in Home Finale

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (8-6-3) scored early and held on to a 1-0 lead to defeat visiting Johnson & Wales - Charlotte (5-6-2) on a chilly Wednesday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field. The contest marked the last home match of the regular season for the Tornados, who will finish their schedule on Saturday, October 23 at Berea at 3 p.m.

Sophomore defender Abbie Worsencroft scored the game's lone goal, heading home a corner kick from senior midfielder Sallie Riggan in just the eighth minute of action to give the Tornados all the room that they would need in the match.

Graduate goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas and a defense consisting of Channing Barker, Lena Hater, Emma White, Worsencroft, and Autumn Wright shut down the Wildcats throughout the contest, allowing just one shot total in the match that was turned away by Rojas.

White led all Tornado shot takers with six attempts, followed by Tae Brown who totaled three shot attempts.

Brevard was able to dominate the contest, outshooting the visitors by a whopping 24-1 margin while controlling four corner kicks for JWU's two.

Worsencroft's third goal of the season stood up for the Tornados, as BC maintained its 1-0 lead into the break. In a half that saw 14 Tornado shooting opportunities, JWU's closest came in the 64th minute when Brooklyn Cathey'e breakaway shot attempt was turned away by Rojas.

The Tornados were able to hold on as BC closed the book on the non-conference season  with the close win and will prepare for a USA South contest on Saturday in Berea, Kentucky at 3 p.m.
